I am so excited to be heading to New Orleans tomorrow! I stumbled across this old vintage photo of a Waffle Vendor from the 1940’s in New Orleans. I think it’s pretty cool. (4 waffles for 5 cents? good times.) I have no idea what to expect on this trip. But from the emails and tweets and articles I’ve been following - it seems like it’s going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I think the thing I am most excited about is just exploring this completely unfamiliar city, learning the culture and the history about NOLA. I think it says so much already that the city has put together this amazing program for others to come. Ironically about a week ago, my husband and I met with a Real Estate agent and I noticed his car license plate read “NOLABOY” so New Orleans has opened up unexpected conversations for me already.. I am so grateful for this opportunity and excited for this experience!

Orange County, CA
Orange County is a comfortable place to live. It is a bit suburban but at the same time, it’s also a melting pot of all different cultures and people. It’s easily accessible to everything. While Orange County is my hometown and familiar to me, I certainly have desires to live in and explore other cities… especially my favorite cities listed below ![]()
Lancashire, England
My favorite city would have to be tied between London + Portland. I love the culture in London and the city life but I was totally charmed by all that Portland has to offer. The biggest reason I love both these cities is because I love the rain!
Participating in NOLAbound would be a great experience and opportunity to learn about a city that I really have little knowledge about. I’d love to explore New Orleans with an intentional purpose of learning of the history, the culture, the people. Through gaining new insights and being introduced to a whole new community, I hope to bring my experiences back and spread awareness about NOLA to others.
To be honest, only a couple words come to mind when I hear and think of New Orleans. 1) Mardi Gras 2) Katrina, and 3) Disneyland (it has the New Orleans Square next to Pirates of the Caribbean) is that sad? Beyond that, I really have no knowledge or experience of New Orleans though I have heard it is an amazing city full of culture, a great community, and good food!
I think the most important issue facing New Orleans is simply spreading awareness that this city has so much more to offer and overcoming the general cliches that is attached to it.
